Well most of the people among us use Wi-Fi to access the internet and stuff. It is considered to be essential everywhere now because it offers internet at cheap rates and moreover, we get pretty good speed all over.
Our Wi-Fi routers look something like the pic above.
Setting up a wireless home network is pretty simple now. Get a wireless router, connect the Internet port of the router to your broadband modem and then connect any of the numbered LAN ports to the desktop computer through an Ethernet cable.
But you sometimes may have encountered problems and that too of the Wi-Fi getting disconnected because you’re out of range or it doesn’t work in some corners of your house.
Don’t worry! We’ve a solution for you!
The first way is to use your laptop.
If you’re encountering problems of disconnection or getting very low speeds due to distance from the Router, you need to download a file for your laptop known as ‘Connectify’.
Download it here.
The guide to use it is given in the above link.
By this app, you can turn your laptop into a Wi-Fi hotspot with the same speed as that of your Router.
It is basically a kind of Wi-Fi Repeater which promises you the same speed and reliability as that of your Router.
The other step is to Install the DD-WRT firmware on your wireless router – this might help increase the range of your Wi-Fi router by a few meters if not more.
The easy step is to place your Router at a height in a central location where it’d be accessible to every device
Other way is that Wireless routers generally ship with omni-directional antennas but you can replace them with more powerful uni-directional antennas and that will keep the signal from getting broadcast in all directions.
If still nothing happens, you can try a hardware method.
In this method, you can buy a Wi-Fi Repeater that must be placed in the range of your Router and it repeats the signal that’s accessible to you within your desired range.
So these were some basic tips about how to increase your Wi-Fi range. If you still have questions, do write to us then.
